Learn more]]> The camogie team were out in force early this year as we were asked to participate in the mini-games at the Camogie All-Ireland Finals in Croke Park. The girls played at half time of the Liberty Insurance Premier Junior Championship Final between Dublin and Westmeath. There was great excitement on the day and the girls enjoyed the day very much.

The day also marked a special occasion for Ella Troy as she wore the senior camogie team jersey for the first time. Three years ago Ella’s grandmother Eileen Troy won a set of jerseys and kindly donated them to the school for the camogie team. This set of jerseys have been very lucky for us. The jerseys have the initials of PJT on the sleeve in memory of Eileen’s son P.J Troy who sadly lost his life at a young age. Ella will no doubt wear the school jersey with pride many times in the future.

Learn more]]> June was a very busy month in St Fiachra’s as the camogie team contested the Division 1 final in Croke Park. The girls had worked very hard since early in the year training before and after school. On the day all their hard work paid off. The girls were outstanding. The opposition Loreto Ps, Rathfarnham battled very hard but our girls were determined to take home the silverware on the day. All of the girls were fantastic but a special mention has to be made to Catriona McMahon. She missed our last two outings to Croke Park but this year she made sure to hit the headlines. She walked off the pitch having scored 9 goals! There was great cheer and excitement all around the stadium when our captain Sophie Forristal lifted the Corn Bean Uí Phuirseil cup.

Learn more]]> The camogie team were very fortunate to be chosen to represent Dublin at an inter-county tournament in June. The 12 sixth class girls represented their county with pride on a wet and miserable summer day in Portlaoise. The girls left the school early in the morning. The girls played four games against Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny and Kildare. A great day was had by all and a stop off at Supermacs on the way home went down a treat.

Learn more]]> We visited the Natural History Museum this week for a workshop called Skullduggery. We took the 14 bus to D’Olier Street and walked to Merrion Square. When we got there, our guide Catherine welcomed us in and started her talk straight away. We looked at a human skull, a tiger skull and the skull of a pilot whale. We learned about carnivores, herbivores, insectivores and omnivores. Catherine showed us how tigers trap their prey using their jaws. It was quite scary. We got to hold the tooth of an elephant. It weighed over 1kg and an elephant would have between 4 and 6  of these teeth. It was a very interesting workshop and we all really enjoyed it.

Afterwards we ate our lunch in the park in Merrion Square and played in the playground. We returned to school tired but happy after a great day out.

Learn more]]> We went to the National Sports Campus and the Aquatic Centre in Abbotstown for our school tour. We visited the athletics  and the gymnastics arena. We tried out trampolining, walking on the beams and the foam pit. We jumped off the springboard also. We ran a relay on the track and got to try out the long jump and the high jump.

After lunch we walked to the Aquatic Centre. We had great fun in the pool on the slides and in the lazy river.

We all agreed that it was a fantastic day out and we would recommend it to other fourth classes.
