Our school was so lucky to have a Science Presentation by Paddy Madden, a Lecturer on Social Environmental and Science Education at Marino Institute of Education.
We loved listening to Paddy’s stories about the plants, animals and mini-beasts of Ireland. He showed us lots of interesting plants, bugs, shells, rocks, animals homes, insect hotels – so many many things! We could listen to Paddy forever!
4th Class has been busy using their mathematical skills to do some shopping. They were using Shopping Catalogues to buy ingredients for a nutritious cheap dinner. Yummy!
What ingredients did they choose?
Whose dinner was the cheapest? What was the cost of this dinner?
Whose dinner was the most expensive? What was the cost of this dinner?
What ingredients were used in each dinner?
What change did they get from €10?
What was the difference between the cheapest dinner and the most expensive dinner?
Science Presentation in Beaumont Hospital by the Royal College of Surgeons to St. Fiachra’s SNS students
It’s not every day that our students are invited to Beaumont Hospital for a Science Presentation by the tutors of the Royal College of Surgeons!
St. Fiachra’s 6th class students put on the white coats and surgical gloves and participated in a myriad of fascinating scientific experiments. They got the opportunity to use various items of medical equipment. Everybody was enraptured by this experience! A fascinating day for our students!
Third Classes are very busy planting and maintaining the flower beds in the school courtyards. These flower beds make our school look so pretty and colourful. Lots of watering and weeding to be done on a daily basis to care for the flowers and plants. What great gardeners we have in St. Fiachra’s SNS!! Our brightly coloured flowers attract lots of butterflies, bees and insects.
Spring is in the air! Time to get planting with our school friends!
Looking forward to seeing these flowers bloom shortly!

We are affiliated to the National Parents Council (Primary).

Watch what happened when baking powder was put in a balloon and dropped in on top of a bottle of malt vinegar!! Their chemical reaction created a gas which inflated the balloon! Wow! Almost like magic!!
Yesterday I taught the class some German. I lived in Germany and my dad is German so I know the language. Nicole and I started with teaching the class the basics. We had a conversation with each other in German, and then we translated it to English. After that we made the class repeat the sentences in German and have the conversation with us. Then the class split up into partners and had the conversation with each other.
This is the conversation we learned:
Me: Guten Tag!
Me: Wie heisst du?
Nicole: Ich heisse Nicole. Wie heisst du?
Me: Ich heisse Fay, wie gehts dier?
Nicole: Mier gehts gut, wie gehts dier?
Me: Mier gehts auch gut.
This is translation:
Me: Good day!
Me: What’s your name?
Nicole: My name is Nicole, what’s your name?
Me: My name is Fay, how are you?
Nicole: I’m good, how are you?
Me: I’m also good.
