On the 16th of October 2015, two Irish soldiers came to visit our school, St.Fiachra’s. We spent many days preparing for this special event. In preparation for this event we made projects together, our projects were based on the seven leaders of the 1916 rising as well as the Irish Tri-Colour.

Mr.D.Garvin helped organize the event. He gathered children from 3rd,4th,5th and 6th class to receive our national flag from the army and read an extract of the proclamation.

Our projects were on display for the army and the rest of the school to see. All of the other classes had to sit a quiz based on our…amazing projects!

The entire school was filled with children, parents and teachers. The army presented the Irish flag to our school and told us how the flag should be treated.

Our national flag now awaits proclamation day, where it will be hung up for everyone to see and honour.
