It has been a busy few months in GAA. Three teams represented the school in Cumann na mBunscoil games. The girls’ team made it through to the quarter final and were unfortunate to be beaten by a stronger side on the day. The junior boys’ football team also had great success winning a number of matches. The biggest round of applause, however, must go to the senior boys’ football team. The boys were very determined this year and their hard work paid off and landed them a place in a cherished Croke Park final. It was the first time since 2008 that a football team from St.Fiachra’s Senior School has played in a final in Croke Park. There was great excitement around the school on the days leading up to the final.  All of the school got to witness our stars of the future. Unfortunately on the day we were beaten by a stronger team from Ballyroan BNS. However the boys did the school, their parents and their clubs proud. Many thanks to all the teachers involved in taking out teams, especially Ms McIntyre, Ms Roche and Ms O’Brien.

In September we unfortunately said goodbye to GPO Niall Williams, who has worked with the school over the last number of years through Whitehall Colmcille GAA Club. Niall has played a large part in the school’s success in the GAA. The children were sad to see him leave and many children have fond memories of his time with us. We wish him every success in his new role with the Camogie Association. Our new GPO, Sean Cleary, will be starting soon and we are looking forward to welcoming him to the school.

The girls of 4th, 5th and 6th have been taking part in a number of camogie sessions after school on Mondays. They are having lots of fun. It is great to see many girls actively involved in camogie in the school.

In September we said goodbye to Niall….

In October the boys senior team got through to the finals in Croke Park. Cormac Costello spoke to the boys about his Croke Park experiences.
