Gaelic games play a huge part in the life of our school. Our school has strong links with the local club Whitehall Colmcille. Sean Cleary (Games Promotion Officer of Whitehall) visits our school every Friday. Children from 3rd and 4th get an opportunity to develop their football and hurling skills.

Annually we compete in Cumann na mBunscol competitions in football, hurling and athletics. We are fortunate to have a number of teachers who give their time voluntarily in order to train teams and develop their skills. We are fortunate that over the last number of years we have been very successful in these competitions. ls;

GAA 5 Star Centre

This year St Fiachra’s is one of a number of schools accepted to pilot a new initiative from the GAA.

The GAA 5 Star initiative aims to support and recognise Primary Schools that provide pupils with 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous Gaelic Games activity per week in a manner that ensures the children will experience fun, friendship, fairness and ultimately improve their fitness.  Recognition as a “GAA 5 Star Centre” is awarded to Primary Schools that undertake to deliver a programme of Gaelic Games activity that is age-appropriate and meets the developmental needs of children within the school.
